The Healing Power of Sound with Sara

- An immersive multi instrumental sound journey into the inner immensity of the self -

Sound is universally used as a gateway to meditation and religious ceremony. It shapes our reality and transforms the way we feel. Hearing is the first sense developed in utero and the last sense we lose. Listening is hard wired to many different layers of the brain. Sound can be a powerful alternative medicine, helping to unify our body, mind and spirit. Sound, applied correctly, stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system inviting a deep state of relaxation, a necessary condition for healing. Consciously listening to sound allows us to come back to the present and into the body, helping to make the incomprehensible comprehensible, serving as our roadmap to personal well being.

I strongly believe that by developing a practice of deep listening through the healing power of sound it is possible to restore a sense of balance and well-being, find freedom within and encourage harmony in all aspects of life, consequently freeing oneself from suffering.

In my sound practice I combine instruments that are made of metal, wood, clay and glass such as Tibetan and crystal bowls, Japanese and Indian bells, gongs, kalimba, zither, Shakuhachi and Khloy flute, ocean drum, udu, frame drum and the voice together with sounds of nature. The combination of their harmonics allows me to create unique elemental sound journeys that function as a bridge for self awareness and self discovery while promoting harmony of body, mind and spirit.

Sara's Journey into Sound Meditation:

Sara is a New York based Italian interdisciplinary artist and a member of La MaMa ETC for over twenty years. Her 25 years long artistic experience and the many benefits she has received by studying and practicing dance, theater and music led her to want to undertake a personal journey in the healing arts and sound therapy. She is a certified sound practitioner from the Open Center SMI program since 2016. Ever since she has been offering her sound practice integrating her knowledge in performance and the creative process with the healing power of sound to create a safe space for conscious listening and healing. Sara has taught in person and virtual sound and movement workshops internationally. In 2019 she founded SonicShanti in collaboration with her sound companion Christopher Cherney. Chris passed away late last year but their mission to offer sound meditations and workshops for cancer patients, people suffering from stress, anxiety, depression, pain and anyone else that wants to restore and nurture a state of quiet, harmony, wellbeing and happiness continues to this day. Some of the organizations that SonicShanti has partnered with are NYU, Tisch, Yale Cancer Center, Omega Institute, You can Thrive, Gilda’s Club, Il Molino, ChiantiBodyMind, Shalva Clinic, Wisdom & Wellness Integrative Cancer Symposium and the Open Center.

In 2023 Sara gets certified as a Mindful Meditation Teacher by the University of California Greater's good Science Service and Sounds True.
